As with
any other prescription medications, antidepressant drugs may
cause side effects. Depending on which type of antidepressant
you take, some side effects could be: dry mouth, nausea, nervousness,
insomnia, headache, blurred vision, constipation, tiredness or sexual
side effects. Not everyone taking them will experience
these side effects. Each antidepressant drug may produce different
side effects so check with your Doctor.
There are many different kinds
of antidepressants, including:
Selective Serotonin Reuptake
Inhibitors (SSRIs). (Common brands are: Zoloft, Paxil, Prozac, Lexapro
and Celexa.)
Tricyclic Antidepressants (tricyclics). (Common brands
are: Pamelor, Aventyl, Norpramin, Tofranil and Elavil.)
Venlafaxine
(Brand name : Effexor)
Other types may include: Mirtazapine, Bupropion,
Trazodone and Nefazadone.
Lastly there are Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors
(MAOIs), which are the less commonly used.
