There are several ways to treat depression.  Some of which are:
Antidepressants
Antidepressants are medication used to help people with Depression. With the help of antidepressants many people have been able to achieve significant recovery from their depression.  Researchers believe that Antidepressants work by slowing the removal of certain chemicals from the brain itself.  Antidepressants are prescription-only drugs so a depressed person MUST seek the help of a health care professional.
As with any other prescription medications, antidepressant drugs may cause side effects.  Depending on which type of antidepressant you take, some side effects could be: dry mouth, nausea, nervousness, insomnia, headache, blurred vision, constipation, tiredness or sexual side effects.  Not everyone taking them will experience these side effects.  Each antidepressant drug may produce different side effects so check with your Doctor.
There are many different kinds of antidepressants, including:

Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs). (Common brands are: Zoloft, Paxil, Prozac, Lexapro and Celexa.)
Tricyclic Antidepressants (tricyclics). (Common brands are: Pamelor, Aventyl, Norpramin, Tofranil and Elavil.)
Venlafaxine (Brand name : Effexor)
Other types may include: Mirtazapine, Bupropion, Trazodone and Nefazadone.
Lastly there are Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs), which are the less commonly used.

Your doctor will help you decide which one is best for you.
* It's important to note that there's no  ONE  form of treatment cures all cases of Major Depression.
Some people skip the antidepressants approach and would rather take vitamins or other Natural Remedies.
